ニペソツ山、東の大岩壁。
デルタルンゼは、想像以上に急。
東の空が燃える。
朝が来た。ウペペサンケは遥か向こう。
ルンゼを抜けたところ、アイゼンを装着する。
パイオツ。
稜線の風は強いが、寒くはない。
ここからが本番。
歯応え抜群の竜の背。
竜の背には、キツネが住む。
先を急ごう。
森の中は天国。
全然丸くない丸山。
ウペが近づいてきた。

ガビガビだった。
東丸山、風がかなり強くなってきた。
見蕩れている余裕など無い。
鞍部までトラバース。気づけば、太陽は低い。
羊羹うまい。
ここを歩けば終わる。
あそこから来たのか。
ラスト・バトル
まだ安心できない。
デブリだらけの四の沢、暗くて長い林道を歩き、無事下山。疲れた。
厳冬期ニペウペワンデイは本当に可能なのか。条件は揃った、夢を叶えよう。
深夜1時に幌加ダムを出発。ラッセルはくるぶし。放射冷却でキンキンに冷えた夜。渡渉で失敗は許されない。ようやく空が明るくなったら、東の大岩壁が僕を見下ろす。デルタルンゼを詰め、耐風装備に身を包みニペ山頂へ。目指すウペペサンケは遥か彼方だ、先を急ごう。ニペ南陵「竜の背」は岩と氷とハイマツのミックス・ルート。アイゼンがすっぽ抜け滑落しかけたが、右手のウィペットに助けられた。驚くべきことに、稜線上はずっと狐の足跡が続いていた。クライマーなんだろうか。森の中に落ちれば天国。パンをかじって後半戦へ。活火山の丸山は地熱の影響で砂礫が露出している。本来ならアイゼンの出番だが、体力温存のためクトーで乗り切る。うまく雪を繋げば問題ない。再び森の中に落ちて、大福をかじる。尾根を詰めて東丸山へ。風が強くなってきた。最低コル1386へは、シールのままトラバース。ウペペまではもう一回登るだけだ。振り返ると、太陽が日高山脈に隠れそう。ずっと歩きっぱなしで、温度の感覚が無くなる。体力は限界を感じつつも、集中力は保てている。まだ大丈夫だ。ウペペサンケ稜線を歩き切ると日が暮れた。2度目のヘッドライトを装着し、四の沢へ。途中から大量のデブリが現れて難儀する。ライトの電池がギリギリだったが、月明かりに助けられた。何度か渡渉して林道に合流。最後の渡渉は、ブーツにビニールを咬ませて攻略した。長く暗い林道は、BGMを鳴らして最後の力を振り絞る。トレースに合流して一安心。全身全霊を懸けた、18時間40分の闘いだった。
厳冬期ニペウペワンデイ。この山行は、我が山人生における「マイル・ストーン」となるだろう。山に感謝を、ありがとう。
