1月8日、夕張岳へ登って来た。クリスマスのトムも素晴らしかったが、夕張は期待以上に素晴らしい山であった。
作戦は前夜から始まっていた。夕張まで4時間のドライブは辛いので、入山前にユーパロの湯で体を温めておいた。休憩室はリクライニングソファー付きの漫画喫茶になっていて、何時間でも時間を潰せそう。露天風呂から見える星空に、夕張登頂の自信が湧いて来た。
その後、入山口に移動して1時間の仮眠。深夜2時15分。行動開始。約4時間の林道歩き。斜度はほとんどなく、帰りもこれを歩かなければならないのかと思うと憂鬱になる。計画通り、林道終点で明るくなった。
冷水コースを詰めて詰めて、前岳を巻くと夕張岳のシルエットが眩しい。やって来ました感MAX。至福のときの始まりだ。思わず叫んでしまった「来た！俺の時代！」と。
ルート上は奇岩帯になっている。一つ一つ個性があって見ていて飽きない。登ったり滑ったりしたいとは思わないが、メーカーのカタログ写真の撮影には向いているんじゃないかと思う。マムートとか。
ずんずんと調子よくピークが近づく。風は冷たいが、そよそよなので逆に心地よい。山頂直下は斜度もきつめで難儀したが、無事に突破できた。
今回活躍してくれたウィペット君。前から欲しかったが、冬のボーナスでようやくゲットすることができた。これなしでピークは獲れなかっただろう。トムラから使っているが、本気で使ってよかったと思えたのは今回が初。柄の部分は指が冷えるのでブチルゴムの絶縁テープを巻いておいた。
山頂はがっつり風が吹いていたが、標識の裏だけは静かだった。大雪も日高も羊蹄も見えるような最強の天気に感謝感激である。
今回の山行を成功させるために、2つ装備で工夫したことがある。
一つ目は、アイゼンを抜いたことだ。夕張岳は、とにかく林道が長い。つまり、軽量化が重要になる。で、夕張岳の地形図を見ていた時、山頂までスキーでゴリ押せそうな印象だったので、思い切ってアイゼンを持つのはやめた。結果、ウィペットの力が絶大だったことも奏功したが、無事に山頂に立つことができた。良い判断だったと思われる。
二つ目は、カルピスを持っていったこと。長時間行動で、いつもの500のテルモスだけでは水分不足になる勢いだ。なので、余分に水分を持ちたかったがせっかくなら冷たいやつがいい。でも、冬山に水を持っていけば凍ってしまいそう。ということで、糖分が多くて凍りにくいカルピスをアイゼンで空いたスペースに突っ込んで持っていった。結果、凍ることはなくカルピスパワーで元気よく行動できたと思う。冬山に持っていけるジュース類は研究の余地がありそうだ。
下山後は、札幌の実家に帰省して、翌日、のんびりえりもに帰って来た。3連休は夕張登頂のために捧げてしまった。僕の体力的にはこんな日程の使い方がちょうどいいのかもしれないが、もっと登れるようになるためには、もっと体力つけなければいけないと思う。将来的にはどんな登山スタイルがしっくりくるんだろう。山以外のインドアな趣味が増えれば、土曜日はがっつり山に登って日曜日はのんびりと趣味に興じる、てな具合がちょうどいいのかな。
