いざ、ニペソツ
まどろむ東の空
赤く染まるが、極寒地獄。
寒すぎて凍るレンズ。まともな写真がない。
生き返った。
天気微妙、積雪微妙。どの山にするか迷った挙句、消去法でニペソツを選ぶ。そんな消極的な野郎がニペソツに登って、イタい目に遭った話。出発は明朝3時。
やまとき「赤いニペソツが見たいかぁ〜？！」
やまとき「うぅおぉおお〜！！」
とりあえず気合を入れて出発。車の温度計はマイナス18度を指していた。放射冷却でキンキンに冷えた夜。林道脇は雪不足で笹が出まくっている。穴持たずに遭遇しそうで、内心ビクビクする。聞こえないものが聞こえてきそう。（まだ冬眠前の足跡があるらしい。）心を無にして歩を進めていると、「ボボボボボボボ」と、キジバトが轟音を立てるからマジで心臓に悪い。闇夜の林道は精神的にやられますわ。数日前のトレースを使いつつ、GPSを頼りにいつものルートで登っていく。1300を超えると樹林内でも風が抜けて寒い。ハードシェルを装備しても、ジッとしていたらあっという間に身体を冷やす。なので、止まらずに歩き続けて身体を温める。1550から左の沢へ降りると東の空が赤くなってきた。だが上の方はガスがかかっている。沢を詰めると一段と寒くなって、地獄ゴーグルを装着。電熱フィルムのおかげで、赤っぽく見えるから面白い。前天狗まで4時間半。ニペソツの鋭鋒はうっすら見えるが、天気は悪化傾向だ。おまけに風がどんどん厳しくなって、ダウンを着込んでも指先が痛いくらい冷たい。我慢の限界を超えた。「よっしゃ、今日は帰ろう」。こんな天気なので、前天狗まででも御の字だろうと、下山する言い訳をこしらえて華麗にUターン。今シーズン、また来るチャンスはあるだろう。指先をほぐしながら、試練のスキー。モナカ。こんな日もある。あとはトレースに沿って下山。標高を落とせば、指先は回復した。三股山荘でビーフステーキ丼。薪ストーブ近くの席を使わせてくれた。硬くなった全身の筋肉がとろけるように温まった。また行こう、三股山荘。
